CELLOFLEX-M
Propeller shaft coating system

CELLOFLEX-M – The environmental friendly protection for propeller shafts against corrosion

The CELLOFLEX-M is a coating system for which avoids corrosion damages to propeller -/ sterntube shafts and couplings exposed to seawater. CELLOFLEX-M is a further development of our experienced and well tried and tested shaft coating system CELLOFLEX which has been proven in service thousands of times at navies worldwide (Germany, Greece, Argentina, Turkey, Venezuela, Korea, Indonesia, Netherlands, Spain, Portugal, Norway and many more)CELLOFLEX-M is approved by the German Navy.

Our shaft coating system finds it’s use at following types of vessels:

- Navy vessels like corvettes, frigates, aircraft carriers, submarines, patrol boats etc.
- police and coast guard boats
- research vessels
- Ice breakers
- Yachts
- Merchant ships (if required)

Shafts protection
The CELLOFLEX-M shaft coating products are easy to handle and no special turning of shafts is required. CELLOFLEX-M can be applied when the ship is drydocked without the necessity of removing the shafts. Repairs can also be carried out easily during drydocking.

Features:

- Epoxy based material
- Protection against corrosion
- Excellent accommodation to torsion and vibration stress of shaft
- Excellent adhesive strength
- 3-layer system protects against damages from seawater obstacles
- non-polluting
- No removing of shaft in drydock
- No need of turning shaft
- Easy repair (even in combination with previous CELLOFLEX material)

CELLOFLEX-M is a cost-effective and highly qualified method to protect shafts of black steel. It is the ultimate and most cost saving alternative to the use of stainless steel shafts.

Development

In the year 1934 we were commisioned to develop a protective coating against corrosion for tail shafts extending from the ship hull thus being subject to direct contact by sea water.
After several years of trials in collaboration with the Cellon MfG, we succeeded in developing a double layer coating, consisting of an elastic primary coat and a woven fabric inserted top coating of hard varnish. This coating was resistent against corrosion and patented under DRP 701170, following the approval of the German Navy. Until 1945 a total of 2.500 propeller shafts have been protected by our "Cellon" shaft coating.

In the fifties, the new epoxy resins were tried in order to replace the "Cellon" varnish and the development of the CELLOFLEX shaft coating started.
Now, more than 1000 propeller shafts of the German Navy and ships of several Nato-countries are protected by the reliable CELLOFLEX tail shaft coating and additional more than 400 merchant vessels of various tonnage, like ferries, cable ships, coast guard boats.
Since April 2005 the improved shaft coating system CELLOFLEX-M is successful on the market with numerous of references.
